IMPRESSIONISTIC PHOTOGRAPHY

I use my cameras in the same way of as a canvas and paint-brushes. Like the painter, I also need to continue my studies about motion in new places where changes take place … For this reason, the impressionistic painters entrusted themselves to a technique based on the vibration of the same colours that I am obtaining with my cameras, thanks to some modifications that I made inside the cameras. These modifications are exactly tied to the perception of light and time in order to record the observation of an impressionist painter, thus to obtain a dissolve of the subjects contours.
Also for me, it is very important to observe the subject for a long period of time, and to render on film the instantaneous personal feeling. In fact, the impressionists with this formality, have gradually replaced the conception of the “subject” with the “motive” and “cause” drawn from the direct observation. In order to render these impressions concrete on film, I must therefore alter the exposure time of the film during the observation of the subject, but also to repeat more exposures in order to fix every variation. Finally, to transfer my emotions thanks to precise and sensitive movements of the camera.
In their research, the impressionists painters drew inspiration from the discovery of photography, painting following the photographic outlines to satisfy their requirement: decentralized lay-out, clean and unusual cuts, oblique perspectives, new points of view. Besides this theoretical experience of photography, I have the intention to complete the contribution for this kind of research. My study is therefore to use the film not like something far away to perceive and escaping, but a space in which to compose, taking all the necessary time like the painter makes on the canvas. Also when the subject can not remain motionless.
